The fundamental problem in control engineering is to provide robust performance to uncertain plants. H -control theory began in the early eighties as an attempt to lay down rigorous foundations on the classical robust control requirements. It now turns out that H -control theory is at the crossroads of several important directions of research space or polynomial approach to control and classical interpolation theory; harmonic analysis and operator theory; minimax LQ stochastic control and integral equations. The book presents the underlying fundamental ideas, problems and advances through the pen of leading contributors to the field, for graduate students and researchers in both engineering and mathematics. From the Contents: C. Foias: Commutant Lifting Techniques for Computing Optimal H Controllers.- B.A. Francis: Lectures on H Control and Sampled-Data Systems.- J.W. Helton: Two Topics in Systems Engineering Frequency Domain Design and Nonlinear System.- H. Kwakernaak: The Polynomial Approach to H -Optimal Regulation.- J.B. Pearson: A Short Course in l - Optimal Control

Lecture Notes on Mathematical Olympiad Courses

Olympiad mathematics is not a collection of techniques of solving mathematical problems but a system for advancing mathematical education. This book is based on the lecture notes of the mathematical Olympiad training courses conducted by the author in Singapore. Its scope and depth not only covers and exceeds the usual syllabus, but introduces a variety concepts and methods in modern mathematics. In each lecture, the concepts, theories and methods are taken as the core. The examples are served to explain and enrich their intension and to indicate their applications. Besides, appropriate number of test questions is available for reader's practice and testing purpose. Their detailed solutions ...

Stochastic processes are as usual the main subject of the Séminaire, with contributions on Brownian motion (fractional or other), Lévy processes, martingales and probabilistic finance. Other probabilistic themes are also present: large random matrices, statistical mechanics. The contributions in this volume provide a sampling of recent results on these topics. All contributions with the exception of two are written in English language.

Lecture Notes On Mathematical Olympiad Courses: For Senior Section - Volume 1

Olympiad mathematics is not a collection of techniques of solving mathematical problems but a system for advancing mathematical education. This book is based on the lecture notes of the mathematical Olympiad training courses conducted by the author in Singapore. Its scope and depth not only covers and beyond the usual syllabus, but introduces a variety of concepts and methods in modern mathematics as well.In each lecture, the concepts, theories and methods are taken as the core. The examples serve to explain and enrich their intentions and to indicate their applications. Besides, appropriate number of test questions is available for the readers' practice and testing purpose. Their detailed solutions are also conveniently provided. The examples are not very complicated so readers can easily understand. There are many real competition questions included which students can use to verify their abilities. These test questions originate from many countries all over the world. This book will serve as a useful textbook of mathematical Olympiad courses, a self-study lecture notes for students, or as a reference book for related teachers and researchers.

Séminaire de Probabilités XXXVIII

Besides a series of six articles on Lévy processes, Volume 38 of the Séminaire de Probabilités contains contributions whose topics range from analysis of semi-groups to free probability, via martingale theory, Wiener space and Brownian motion, Gaussian processes and matrices, diffusions and their applications to PDEs. As do all previous volumes of this series, it provides an overview on the current state of the art in the research on stochastic processes.

Nonstandard Methods and Applications in Mathematics

Since their inception, the Perspectives in Logic and Lecture Notes in Logic series have published seminal works by leading logicians. Many of the original books in the series have been unavailable for years, but they are now in print once again. This volume, the twenty-fifth publication in the Lecture Notes in Logic series, grew from a conference on Nonstandard Methods and Applications in Mathematics held in Pisa, Italy from 12–16 June, 2002. It contains ten peer-reviewed papers that aim to provide something more timely than a textbook, but less ephemeral than a conventional proceedings. Nonstandard analysis is one of the great achievements of modern applied mathematical logic. These articles consider the foundations of the subject, as well as its applications to pure and applied mathematics and mathematics education.
