The Radcliffes of Leigh started in the twelfth century onwards for several centures the Radcliffes of Radclife Tower remained lords of the manor of Radcliffe. At a early date some of the Radcliffe became large landowners, the families of Radcliffe of Winmarleigh, of Ordsall and of Smithills. Fist of the family was summoned to the house of Lords was John Radcliffe, who in 1485 was summoned as Lord Fitzwalter, his mother being the heiress of the Fitzwalter.
Divided into 3 books, the 1st relates to Natural Philosophy, the 2nd chiefly Physick; and the 3rd, the British, Phoenician, Armenian, greek and Roman antiquities of these counties.
This is a reproduction of a book published before 1923.
