From the Khitans to the Jurchens & Mongols, A History of Barbarians in Triangle Wars & Quartet Conflicts is the third book of The Scourge of God Tetralogy. This is a book with comprehensive writeup of the barbarians’ history spanning more than one thousand years, from before the anno domini eras and inclusive of the expulsion of the Mongols from China. The subtitle about the barbarians in triangle wars & quartet conflicts is self-explanatory for the historical environment of different groups of barbarians successively rising up on the steppes to overpower the former with more savagery. This third book, while carrying a title with emphasis on the Khitans, the Jurchens and Mongols, also cove...

Historical Records of the Five Dynasties

Written by Ouyang Xiu (1007-1072), an intellectual giant of the Song dynasty, Historical Records of the Five Dynasties offers a compelling interpretation of the Five Dynasties period (907-979). In overhauling the existing official history, Ouyang Xiu made several notable decisions. He recast the entire narrative in the popular "ancient" style to make for a rare fluency. He adopted rigorous moral categories to evaluate historical figures, reflecting the new regimen of his day. He also annotated portions of the text to establish a methodology for future writers. The Historical Records thereby became the official version-the last of China's dynastic histories to be written by an individual in a private capacity. In addition to its provocative commentary and lucid presentation, Historical Records is an eloquent statement on the art and craft of historical writing in the eleventh century.

Dynastic China

Dynastic China: An Elementary History surveys four millennia of China’s history. It traced commentaries from the mythological period of Pangu, creator of the Chinese universe, and the Goddess Nuwa, creator of the Chinese people, through to the legendary periods of the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties to subsequent succeeding dynasties from the Qin Dynasty (221 BC) to the end of the Qing Dynasty (1912 AD). It weaved through brutal political intrigues and conspiracies of China’s imperial existence. The persistent enthronement of child emperors for the benefits of power-hungry eunuchs, dowagers, members of the imperial clans, generals and warlords formed a large part of the narrative. Encrypte...

The book is a classic of wisdom compiled by Yu Lin, a scholar of the Ming Dynasty. It chooses famous characters and stories in Chinese history. The collection is as famous as Feng Menglong's The Think Tank. Because the stories collected are all ingenious schemes, it has been misunderstood as a bypass and imprisoned for a long time. In fact, this book provides us with a wealth of historical knowledge and profound strategies to govern the world. By drawing lessons from the wisdom of the ancients in life, such as prevention of danger, acting on camera, responding at random, changing dangers into barbarians, relieving hardships and so on, we can gain the truth and experience of life, so that the world can become wise, sober and open-minded. The book also chooses a large number of classical stories about self-cultivation, family unity, governing the country and peace of the world, especially elaborating on the strategy and experience of living in the world, which still has certain enlightening significance at present.
