This compelling book offers a comprehensive analysis of the struggle for democracy in Haiti, set in the context of the tumultuous rise and fall of Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Swept to power in 1991 as the champion of Haiti's impoverished majority and their demand for a more just, equal, and participatory democratic society, the charismatic priest-turned-president was overthrown by the military just seven months into his first term. Popular resistance to the junta compelled the United States to lead a multinational force to restore Aristide to power in 1994 to serve out the remainder of his presidency until 1996. When he was re-elected for a second and final term in 2000, Aristide had undergone a...

"I am about to share here a story about stars that dance. . . . If the very thought of seeing stars dance piques your curiosity at some deep level of your soul, then pay attention to what follows, for the walk to the Field of Stars, to Santiago de Compostela, is a journey that has the power to change lives forever." -- from the introduction "Pilgrimage" is a strange notion to our modern, practical minds. How many of us have walked to a distant holy place in order to draw nearer to God? Yet the pilgrimage experience is growing these days in various parts of the world. Seeking to take stock of his life, Kevin Codd set out in July 2003 on a pilgrimage that would profoundly change his life. To t...

The Call is the archetype of 'the Iliad by Homer'; except, here, Ligonde dares go where no other mind has gone before. As has said Stephen Hawking in his book 'a brief history of time' The Church dislikes the idea of anyone going before or beyond the 'big bang' creation especially astrophysicists. Since, humans were limping before, then, Ligonde trek with them, back and forth in space/time, left them to proceed into 'the Quantum slipstream' beyond the Heavens near 'The Continuum' in this journey to see God! Unlike 'The Iliad' and 'The Inferno', 'The Call by Ligonde' is not fixated in one specific space/time or location on this blue, beautiful, bountiful planet Earth we dwell on; Instead, 'Th...
In order to put the intractable problems and uncertain future the O.A.S. is facing in a more manageable perspective, the author, with the help of the Organization's two successive Secretaries-General Alejandro Orfila and Joao Clemente Baena Soares, met with leading figures in all the Member States in and out of their governments. In this book these leaders shed much light on whether the O.A.S. should be disbanded or not, its general and specific problems, U.S. and Latin America, U.S. in the Organization, Member States' bilateralism, and subregional approaches. And, there is a near unanimous consensus among them of the need for further reforming the Organization. Lastly, a need for «baptizing» an already-existing «inter-American co-prosperity sphere programme» by the Member States, is stressed. The Organization has to serve the programme as its main instrument for all the «Americans» everywhere in the Hemisphere.
Funny, touching, and inspiring! A book about really walking the Camino de Santiago! Perhaps it was the onset of middle-age or just too much diet cola, but in the Spring of 2010, Canadian boy, Randall St. Germain felt called to take on the 800 kilometer, or 500 mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage from St. Jean Pied de Port, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Seriously, what ensued was a dedication to his mother, a personal challenge, and a journey of cultural and historical enlightenment. A million footsteps, and a few pounds of gauze and tape later, he arrived in Santiago de Compostela, with a better understanding of himself - and a newfound familiarity with snoring and flatulent pilgri...
