Journey from Paris to the Limousin

"The Journey is here translated for the first time into English, The translator/editor has provided an introduction that traces La Fontaine's early career; explains the reason for the trip to Limoges; discusses his sketches of people he encounters on the way; and analyzes the poet's reactions to works of art and architecture, his personal comments to his wife, and his epistolary style, with its engaging good humor and candor. The detailed Notes contribute to the scholarly usefulness of this edition. The book should appeal to all lovers of La Fontaine and to those interested in the Grand Siecle and the era of Louis XIV."--Jacket.

Life and Laughs in Limousin

The journey over, coming as it did only three days after our daughters wedding, was a long, tiring one. The trusty Volvo was laden with seven dogs, loads of dog bedding and various items that hadnt made the removal van. We set off at 6am from our daughters home and drove to our former home, now bereft of all furniture, to collect the dogs. They had slept overnight (indoors) in the area left from their dismantled kennels. At 7am, fully loaded, we began the drive to the Euro Tunnel. The dogs, being seasoned travelers, were without exception, settled and quiet.

Moving Europeans, Second Edition

Praise for the first edition: "By far the best general book on its subject.... Moving Europeans will remain a standard reference for some time to come." -Charles Tilly "Moch has reconceived the social history of Europe." --David Levine Moving Europeans tells the story of the vast movements of people throughout Europe and examines the links between human mobility and the fundamental changes that transformed European life. This update of a classic text describes the Western European migration from the pre-industrial era to the year 2000. For this new edition, Leslie Page Moch reconsiders the 20th century in light of fundamental changes in labor, years of conflict, and the new migrations following the end of colonial empires, the fall of communism, and globalization. This new edition also features a greatly expanded and up-to-date bibliography.
