Sink! A Titanic Murder Mystery

Isn’t the Titanic the perfect setting for a murder mystery? The glamorous passengers, the conveniently distracting iceberg, it’s all fun and games for Detective Tennessee Blossom...until the captain announces that nobody in the first-class lounge can board a lifeboat until they discover the murderer among them. But then, who are these people and what is this place, really? Are we even in a classic Edwardian mystery, or sinking into another genre altogether? Each of the nesting layers of this puzzle-box holds a surprise in this mind-bending, hilarious mystery-comedy.

Reminiscences of Forts Sumter and Moultrie: In 1860-'61

Abner Doubleday was an 1842 graduate of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point and a veteran of the Mexican war when he was assigned to Fort Moultrie in the summer of 1860. A Captain of Artillery, he served as second in command of the garrison at the historic fort when the curtain rose on the dramatic events leading to the outbreak of the War Between the States. Doubleday also had the distinction of aiming the first cannon fired in response to the bombardment of Fort Sumter. From letters, memoranda and documents, Doubleday writes of his own recollections of the turbulent days of 1860 and 1861. The Psychosocial Consequences of Natural and Alienated Labor offers a new perspective on how the capitalist labor process shapes the character of its participants. Schwalbe argues that with appropriate social-psychological elaboration, Marx's original analysis of alienated labor can provide a powerful theoretical framework for understanding the psychological consequences of working for capitalism. What is needed, Schwalbe contends, is a social psychology compatible with Marx's naturalist view of human nature and which specifies more precisely the processes whereby alienated labor produces particular psychological outcomes. This social psychology is found in the work of G. H. Mead. Drawing pr...
