Leutnant Gerhard Ehlert was one of the few survivors of 2. Nachtaufklärungsstaffel, part of the Luftwaffe’s 6th Air Fleet, which operated on Eastern Front during the Second World War. Although he came from a family that spoke out against Hitler and the Nazi regime, he volunteered to join the Luftwaffe. He went on to undertake combat patrols under the most extreme circumstances. The Light of thy Countenance: Science and Knowledge of God in the Thirteenth Century
This book is about the development of scholastic argumentation in thirteenth-century Europe. It traces the rise of a formal model of science and resulting accommodations in traditional attitudes towards human cognition, especially with regard to the role of divine illumination. Investigated are ten theologians from Robert Grosseteste to Duns Scotus, all commonly associated with a so-called Augustinian current. The analysis focuses on theory of knowledge and of mind, relating both to the account of human understanding of divinity in the world. Of interest to historians of medieval culture and historians of science, the book lays bare the intellectual transformations ultimately setting the stage for the emergence of modern science. It furthermore advances a novel argument about the reality of "Augustinianism" and "Aristotelianism" in high-medieval thought. The print edition is available as a set of two volumes (9789004119475).

König Friedrich II. von Preußen schätzte nicht nur die Leistungen und das Engagement der aus Pommern stammenden Offiziere hoch ein, sondern auch die der aus der Ostseeprovinz gebürtigen Beamten, vom Bürgermeister bis zum Geheimen Finanzrat. Die im Militär- und Zivildienst stehenden Pommern verkörperten für ihn die "wahren Preußen". In diesem Buch untersucht Rolf Straubel zunächst die unterschiedlichen Verhältnisse in den Immediat- und adligen Mediatstädten, die Modifikationen des städtischen Wahlrechtes und die verschiedenen Aufgaben der Amtsträger. Anschließend legt er ein einzigartiges Verzeichnis vor, in welchem er anhand von etwa 500 Biogrammen die Lebenswege der Bürgermeister, Kämmerer, Senatoren und Sekretäre in bisher ungekannter Detailliertheit skizziert. Er geht dabei unter anderem auch auf Elternhaus und Schulbildung, Laufbahnstufen, Partnerwahl und Kinder ein. Dadurch zeigt er spannende Aspekte des städtischen Lebens im friderizianischen Preußen des ausgehenden 18. Jahrhunderts auf.
