Tucker writes to Mrs. Downing, 20 Dec. 1852, relating that the engraved plate of Mr. Downing's portrait was in the hands of the printers Coats & Cosine, who will print as many as she wants; he goes on to cite the wood cuts he has, and other factors apparently relating to a printing of a work by Mr. Downing.
The first volume of this work, covering the period from 1741-1850, was issued in 1931 by another publisher, and is reissued now without change, under our imprint. The second volume covers the period from 1850 to 1865; the third volume, the period from 1865 to 1885.
