Digital Control Engineering

Digital controllers are part of nearly all modern personal, industrial, and transportation systems. Every senior or graduate student of electrical, chemical or mechanical engineering should therefore be familiar with the basic theory of digital controllers. This new text covers the fundamental principles and applications of digital control engineering, with emphasis on engineering design. Fadali and Visioli cover analysis and design of digitally controlled systems and describe applications of digital controls in a wide range of fields. With worked examples and Matlab applications in every chapter and many end-of-chapter assignments, this text provides both theory and practice for those comin...

I See Me, You See Me

As one of the many by-products of Moore’s Law, personal computers have, in recent decades, become powerful enough to record real-time eye movements with video-based eye trackers. The decrease in the prices of eye tracking systems (ETSs) has been accelerating since the 1990s, and their use in a variety of scientific domains expanding. ETSs and related applications have shown a lot of promise in recent years, and their widespread and ever-increasing use in mainstream/personal equipment for daily life has transformed them from a novelty into a relatively common tool. This book showcases the state of the art in current eye tracking research by bringing together work from a wide range of applic...

Constraint Handling in Metaheuristics and Applications

This book aims to discuss the core and underlying principles and analysis of the different constraint handling approaches. The main emphasis of the book is on providing an enriched literature on mathematical modelling of the test as well as real-world problems with constraints, and further development of generalized constraint handling techniques. These techniques may be incorporated in suitable metaheuristics providing a solid optimized solution to the problems and applications being addressed. The book comprises original contributions with an aim to develop and discuss generalized constraint handling approaches/techniques for the metaheuristics and/or the applications being addressed. A va...

Collected Biographies

Collected Biographies provides descendant reports for the Barns, Gates, Montgomery, Nye, Pierce, Rose, and Rowland families, the earliest of which date back to the seventeenth century. About the Author John H. Rowland is a retired professor of mathematics and computer science at the University of Wyoming, where he taught for thirty-five years. He also taught at the University of Washington in Seattle and the University of Nevada in Reno as well as visiting positions held at Brown University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Systems Development Cooperation in Santa Monica, California. He grew up in State College, Pennsylvania where his father was a professor of accounting at Penn State. Through activities in the Boy Scouts, he became interested in back-packing, cannoning, and downhill skiing. In Laramie he became fascinated with tennis and competed in many tournaments in Wyoming and Colorado.

Analog Computing

Analog computing is one of the main pillars of Unconventional Computing. Almost forgotten for decades, we now see an ever-increasing interest in electronic analog computing because it offers a path to high-performance and highly energy-efficient computing. These characteristics are of great importance in a world where vast amounts of electric energy are consumed by today’s computer systems. Analog computing can deliver efficient solutions to many computing problems, ranging from general purpose analog computation to specialised systems like analog artificial neural networks. The book “Analog Computing” has established itself over the past decade as the standard textbook on the subject ...
