Herbert Howells: Magnificat And Nunc Dimittis (Gloucester) (SATB/Organ)

Herbert Howells's Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis for the Gloucester service is one of his most popular choral settings. This sheet music is arranged for SATB Choir and Organ. Herbert Howells was a renowned English composer of church music in the Anglican evensong tradition, best known for his 'Hymnus Paradisi' and as a teacher at the Royal College of Music. His lesser-known evening canticles include this piece: with its famous treble duet opening the work, it calmly progresses to an affirmation of the glory of heaven through distinctive Lydian harmony and soaring highs. Each individual voice has its own part to play in this piece, with melodies that rise to uplifting highs and fall to booming lows, the combination of voices blends and binds to create a gliding and soaring unity of harmony. This Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis sheet music is the most accurate transcription available of an awe-inspiring piece that is acclaimed by fans of choral music for its beautiful composition and wondrous voicing.

This book contains the complete, original sheet music for Charles V. Stanford's "Magnificat, Op.164," a musical composition for eight-part chorus. It was dedicated to his student Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, who died in the World War I just months before the armistice and the publication of this piece. Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (1852 - 1924) was an Irish composer, conductor, and teacher of music. He was educated at the University of Cambridge and continued his studies in Berlin and Leipzig. Stanford was a very influential composer, responsible for making Cambridge University Musical Society an internationally-acclaimed organisation. Stanford was also a profuse composer, producing a large corpus of work in many genres; however, he is perhaps best remembered for his Anglican choral works for church performance. Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in a modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new introduction on the history of musical notation.

Herbert Howells: Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis (St Paul's) (SATB/Organ)

Herbert Howells composed his Magnificat And Nunc Dimittis evening canticles for St Paul's Cathedral in 1951, going on to become among his most famous and enduring works. These beautiful canticles were composed by a master of setting the Anglican liturgy, and are arranged for SATB Chorus and Organ Accompaniment. These two wonderful works of choral music are characterised by a unique blend of unison harmonies and disparate melodies that highlight each voice perfectly. The lingering notes, crescendos and subtle dynamic changes were composed with the acoustics of that great cathedral in mind, but they also work equally well in any setting.

Sacred Music, Part 2

Antoine Boesset (1586-1643), surintendant de la musique de la chambre to Louis XIII, has long been known as one of the most important composers active in early seventeenth-century France, but until recently he was believed to have produced only secular airs de cour. This edition presents for the first time Boesset¿s newly identified sacred works, a repertory of some seventy compositions for the nuns of the Royal Abbey of Montmartre, Paris. Scored for multiple high voices, bass and basse continue, Boesset¿s works include three complete mass ordinary settings (through composed and alternatim), Te Deums and Magnificats (again both through composed and altneratim), psalms, and a number motets ...
