Physics Of Unstable Nuclear Beams, Topics On The Structural And Interactions Of Nuclei Far From The Stability Line - Proceedings Of The International Workshop

In this volume, the structure and reactions of radioactive nuclei are described. The relevance of halo nuclei to nuclear astrophysics is stressed in different contributions. Other topics included are: three-body aspects of light neutron-rich nuclei, elastic scattering, charge exchange and Coulomb excitation, fragment moment distribution, mass at half-life measurement and electromagnetism-induced fission.

Collective Excitations In Fermi And Bose Systems

Collective excitations in Fermi and Bose systems are key phenomena in understanding the structure and dynamics of many-body systems with the manifestation of different statistics. This volume presents recent developments in atomic and nuclear physics which have revealed intriguing features which are under intense scrutiny by both theorists and experimentalists.

Scattering Theory of Molecules, Atoms, and Nuclei

The aim of the book is to give a coherent and comprehensive account of quantum scattering theory with applications to atomic, molecular and nuclear systems. The motivation for this is to supply the necessary theoretical tools to calculate scattering observables of these many-body systems. Concepts, which are seemingly different for the atomic/molecular scattering from those for nuclear systems, are shown to be the same once the physical units such as energy, length are diligently clarified. Many-body resonances excited in nuclear systems are the same as those in atomic systems and come under the name of Feshbach resonances. We clarify this. We also lean heavily on semi-classical methods to explain the physics of quantum scattering and especially the interference seen in the angle dependence of the cross section. Having in mind a wider readership, the book includes sections on scattering in two dimensions, which is of use in surface physics. Several problems are also included at the end of each of the chapters.

Recent Progress in Few-Body Physics

Few-body physics covers a rich and wide variety of phenomena, ranging from the very lowest energy scales of atomic and molecular physics to high-energy particle physics. The papers contained in the present volume provide an apercu of recent progress in the field from both the theoretical and experimental perspectives and are based on work presented at the “22nd International Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics”. This book is geared towards academics and graduate students involved in the study of systems which present few-body characteristics and those interested in the related mathematical and computational techniques.

This corrected and updated second edition of "Scattering Theory" presents a concise and modern coverage of the subject. In the present treatment, special attention is given to the role played by the long-range behaviour of the projectile-target interaction, and a theory is developed, which is well suited to describe near-threshold bound and continuum states in realistic binary systems such as diatomic molecules or molecular ions. It is motivated by the fact that experimental advances have shifted and broadened the scope of applications where concepts from scattering theory are used, e.g. to the field of ultracold atoms and molecules, which has been experiencing enormous growth in recent year...
