The Romance-Speaking Balkans
The relationship between language and identity is a complex topic everywhere in the world, but maybe it is even more crucial for those people living in the Balkans who speak a Romance variety. This volume is the result of a project started by the Balkan History Association, and brings together scholars trained in social sciences and humanities to offer the reader a thorough sociolinguistic and anthropological account of this region. It constitutes a contribution to a reformulation of methodological and analytical issues, providing a better insight in the linguistic and geopolitical processes taking place in the area. Le développement de la pensée critique des étudiantes et des étudiants est aujourd’hui une nécessité pour les universités et les instituts de formation supérieure du XXIe siècle. Ce XXIe siècle, en effet, est caractérisé par la surabondance des informations, la rapidité des changements, la complexification de la vie en société et la mouvance des savoirs et des connaissances. Les enseignantes et enseignants des universités et des instituts de formation supérieure, dans ce contexte, mettent en place un ensemble de dispositifs et de stratégies pour développer la pensée critique des étudiantes et des étudiants. Toutefois, l’état de la recherche en pédagogie supérieure révèle que peu d’étudiantes et d’étudiants pensent de façon critique à la fin de leur formation universitaire. Movies are often examined for subtext and dramatizations of social and psychological issues as well as current movements. Studies of well-known Catholic directors, such as Alfred Hitchcock and John Ford, have made the search for Catholic themes a reputable field of examination. Through a Catholic Lens continues the search for these themes and examines the Catholic undercurrents by studying nineteen film directors from around the world. Although these directors may or may not be practicing Catholics, their Catholic background can be found in their writing and directing. Each chapter, written by a different contributor, analyzes one film of each director for its Catholic motifs. With the recent increase of cinema studies, this collection will be of interest to students and academics as well as cinema buffs.
