Chromolithographed cover and illustrations bear a highly stippled effect characteristic of McLoughlin chromolithography issued between 1890 and 1910. Book shaped roughly in the form of a gate which Red Riding Hood is opening in the cover design. Text and some illustrations printed in green ink. Full-page illustrations chromolithographed. Cover included in pagination."

Owing to the total destruction of the original Bremen passenger lists, this volume, like the others, is the only practical means of discovering information on thousands of individuals for whom immigrant origin data was thought to be irretrievably lost. In effect, it is a partial reconstruction of the Bremen records, based on official passenger lists and manifests in the custody of the National Archives. It is, therefore, a record of arrivals rather than departures, and it is the closest we are ever likely to come to duplicating information in the lost Bremen records"--Publisher website (December 2007).
Lloyd's Register of Shipping 1887
The Lloyd's Register of Shipping records the details of merchant vessels over 100 gross tonnes, which are self-propelled and sea-going, regardless of classification. Before the time, only those vessels classed by Lloyd's Register were listed. Vessels are listed alphabetically by their current name.
