Annemarie Schwarzenbach (1908-1942), retoño inconformista de una familia de ricos industriales textiles de Zúrich, morfinómana, íntima de los malditos Klaus y Erika Mann, suicida en potencia (murió, sin embargo, a resultas de una caída en bicicleta), reportera, arqueóloga, escritora de atormentada exigencia, lesbiana devenida hoy icono gay, sucumbió al lado oscuro de la vida en un naufragio existencial doloroso pero que nos ha dejado el regalo de páginas bellísimas. Su biografía -véase la tan emotiva que le dedicaron Dominique Grente y Nicole Müller (Annemarie Schwarzenbach, Circe, 1991)-, con su búsqueda desesperada de amor, sus huidas, sus dependencias, su torturada relación familiar (nunca consiguió escapar del dominio de su marcial madre, hija de general y de una Bismarck, que acabó destruyendo, al morir la joven, gran parte de sus escritos), es de las que no pueden dejar indiferente ni al corazón más endurecido.
