El libro muestra un enfoque novedoso centrado en el tratamiento de problemas de la vida diaria como eje estructurador de las propuestas de enseñanza de las ciencias, mediante las cuales se pretende que los estudiantes mejoren su comprensión de estos problemas y sus capacidades para la toma de decisiones sobre ellos, aspectos clave de sus competencias.

La Educación se encuentra en la base de la transmisión y, al mismo tiempo, de la generación misma del conocimiento. Este trasciende la mera acumulación de datos, y su grandeza resulta de una elaborada, contextualizada y significativa toma de consciencia del valor añadido que el cúmulo de información adquiere para poder explicar el porqué de las cosas, su sentido, contexto, tradición, etc. Si bien no se puede descartar el valor de la inspiración del individuo, no es menos cierto que el verdadero valor trascendente del conocimiento cobra sentido a partir de la actividad colaborativa, del acervo de actividad innovadora en red, que potencia la Educación. A Guide to the Latin American Art Song Repertoire
A reference guide to the vast array of art song literature and composers from Latin America, this book introduces the music of Latin America from a singer's perspective and provides a basis for research into the songs of this richly musical area of the world. The book is divided by country into 22 chapters, with each chapter containing an introductory essay on the music of the region, a catalog of art songs for that country, and a list of publishers. Some chapters include information on additional sources. Singers and teachers may use descriptive annotations (language, poet) or pedagogical annotations (range, tessitura) to determine which pieces are appropriate for their voices or programming needs, or those of their students. The guide will be a valuable resource for vocalists and researchers, however familiar they may be with this glorious repertoire.
Preaching Power
This book uses a gender perspective to examine sermons and other officially endorsed discourses of the Catholic Church in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Mexico City. Analyzing the different ways that, over time, gendered images, metaphors, and hagiographical examples were used in sermons and other documents, the book examines how the church negotiated challenges to its cultural and ideological hegemony. Beginning with sermons from the early eighteenth century, the author follows the evolution of church discourses as preachers reveled in Baroque analogies, embraced ideals of the Enlightenment, targeted women's alleged moral vices at times of political crisis, and ultimately turned to notions of women as "the devout sex" in order to combat incipient liberalism. Put another way, liberals after independence were not the only ones to assert a kind of "republican motherhood": preachers countered with a vision of "Catholic motherhood" that had great resonance in Mexico even into the twentieth century.
