From Toleration to Expulsion
On April 6, 1948, a significant portion of the population of the village of Ecsny in Somogy County, Hungary, was expelled from their homeland. This was the result of Protocol XIII of the Potsdam Declaration of 1945 calling for the orderly and humane transfer of German populations now living in Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary. The families involved were descendants of German settlers who began to arrive in what would become the village of Ecsny as early as 1754. Experiencing Long-Term Unemployment in Europe
This book examines the everyday-life patterns of young adults under circumstances of vulnerability and precariousness. Its main focus is on the web of social relations that structure the everyday life of young people, for instance by providing resources and tools of solving problems, exerting pressures and voicing expectations, and shaping the person’s self-conception, identity, and well-being. Based on more than 120 in-depth interviews with young long-term unemployed in six European countries, this book puts social support and the young jobless’ webs of social relations at center stage. It expands knowledge by raising awareness of the multidimensionality and complexity of the social conditions of young jobless, drawing, on the one hand, a more differentiated picture of unemployment, vulnerability and social exclusion amongst young people and, on the other hand, taking a close look at the social reality of young adults’ unemployment in different European cities.
Solidarity in Europe
This open access volume provides evidence-based knowledge on European solidarity and citizen responses in times of crisis. Does the crisis of European integration translate into a crisis of European solidarity, and if yes, what are the manifestations at the level of individual citizens? Citizens and the Crisis
This volume presents evidence-based research on citizens’ experiences and reactions to the Great Recession in Europe. How did European citizen experience and react to the crisis? Jacob John Metzler (1806-1870) was born at Oberhorlen, Hessen Darmstadt, the son of Heirich and Anna Raeder Metzler. He married Elisabeth Christmann (1799-1837) in 1832 at Niederdieten, Hessen Darmstadt. They had four children, 1831-1836. He married 2) Elizabeth Arnold (1804-186_) in 1838 at Niederdieten. They had five children, 1838-1850. They family immigrated to Texas in 1846 and settled in Harris County, Texas. Descendants lived in Texas, Oklahoma, and elsewhere.

Among descendants of Thomas were clergymen, surgeons, attorneys, ambassadors, and representatives of almost every profession.
