Jakob Rezabek (b.1801) married Dorothy Baumruk of Skasov, Bohemia. About 1855 she immigrated to St. Louis, Missouri with their five surviving children. Relatives and friends whom she encouraged to immigrate to the Midwest, lived in Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesoto, North and South Dakota and elsewhere.

Un motif théorique saillant s'est imposé dans le champ des études de la culture et des arts depuis les années 1970 : celui de la figure active du sujet de la réception, telle une incarnation de l'émancipation face à une œuvre. Les contributions réunies dans cet ouvrage montrent qu'il existe d'autres pratiques artistiques et culturelles collectives d'émancipation, et que leur étude pourrait se passer des catégories herméneutiques de lecteur et de spectateur.
