We are now entering the third decade of the 21st century and, especially in the last few years, the achievements made by researchers have been exceptional. This rapid development has led to major advancements in the fast-growing field of intensive care cardiovascular medicine. Frontiers have organised a series of Research Topics to highlight the latest advancements in research across the field of cardiovascular medicine. This Research Topic is led by Prof Fabio Guarracino, Specialty Chief Editor of intensive care cardiovascular medicine. Together with Dr Marija Vavlukis, this Research Topic will focus on new insights, novel developments, current challenges, the latest discoveries, and future perspectives.
Lipid peroxidation is the major molecular mechanism that induces oxidative damage to cell structures and is also involved in the toxicity process that leads to cell death.Lipid peroxidation is a chain reaction initiated by the hydrogen abstraction or addition of an oxygen radical, resulting in the oxidative damage of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). PUFAs are more sensitive than saturated fatty acids because of the presence of a double bond adjacent to a methylene group that makes the methylene C-H bond weaker and therefore the hydrogen is more susceptible to abstraction. This leaves an unpaired electron on the carbon, forming a carbon-centered radical, which is stabilized by a molecular ...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International ICT Innovations Conference, ICT Innovations 2020, held in Skopje, North Macedonia, in September 2020. The 12 full papers and 6 short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 60 submissions. The focal point of the volume is machine learning and applications in spheres of business, science and technology.
The Manual of Hypertension of the European Society of Hypertension reflects emerging concepts that have the potential to impact diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to hypertension. Updating all material, this new edition also delves into a number of areas that have received heightened interest in recent years or have become a matter of debate due to the controversial interpretation of the available data. FEATURES Reflects emerging concepts impacting diagnostic and therapeutic approaches Explores background, history, epidemiology, and risk factors Describes pharmacological, nonpharmacological, and medical treatments Examines hypertension in special populations and treatment
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th International ICT Innovations Conference, ICT Innovations 2021, held as virtual event in September 2021. The 15 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 58 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on deep learning and AI; NLP and social network analysis; theoretical foundations and information security; e-services; sensor systems, IoT.
The American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2019 is bringing big science, big technology, and big networking opportunities to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this November. This event features five days of the best in science and cardiovascular clinical practice covering all aspects of basic, clinical, population and translational content.
This comprehensive reference book of coronary microcirculation broadly covers theoretical aspects, clinical cases and therapeutic considerations from an innovative perspective. Topics covered include: ischemic heart disease, silent cerebral damage, heart failure, left ventricular hypertrophy arrhythmias, and cerebral and renal microcirculation. Microcirculation: From Bench to Bedside underlines the clinical importance of addressing coronary microcirculation with relevant clinical examples that are often encountered by practitioners. It therefore provides a critical resource on microcirculation for both specialist and non-specialist practitioners.
This state-of-the-art account of research and theorizing brings together multimodality, learning and communication through detailed analyses of signmakers and their meaning-making in museums, hospitals, schools and the home environment. By analyzing video recordings, photographs, screenshots and print materials, Jeff Bezemer and Gunther Kress go well beyond the comfortable domains of traditional sites of (social) semiotic and multimodal research. They steer away from spurious invention and naming of ever more new and exciting domains, focusing instead on fundamentals in assembling a set of tools for current tasks: namely, describing and analyzing learning and communication in the contemporar...
This book offers a valuable contribution to the field of minimally invasive coronary intervention, presenting the latest developments in slender catheters, their development and the related research findings. With the growing interest in trans-radial interventions (TRIs) and distal radial approach, "Slender PCI" has been popular in Japan. Although "Slender PCI" started with using a small diameter catheter of a 5Fr Guiding Catheter, recently it becomes a generic term for all minimally invasive catheter Interventions. "Slender PCI" not only makes less painful but also reduces exposure to radiation and contrast agents. In addition, the book highlights the distal radial approach, 5Fr guiding catheter for treating complex lesion, 4Fr guiding catheters, 3Fr diagnosis catheters. The authors share their experiences and know-how throughout, providing abundant illustrations to enhance readers’ understanding.
Research centering on blood flow in the heart continues to hold an important position, especially since a better understanding of the subject may help reduce the incidence of coronary arterial disease and heart attacks. This book summarizes recent advances in the field; it is the product of fruitful cooperation among international scientists who met in Japan in May, 1990 to discuss the regulation of coronary blood flow.
