The Garden Party is a celebration; a celebration of nature, beauty, difference, friendship, hope and triumph. Central is the idea that we are all individuals and that our differences in no way diminish our worth. The central character is a snail, Siddnie. Siddnie is different from all the other snails in that he is skinny. Initially, he is ashamed of his difference and is saddened because he is mocked by others in the garden. However, when his difference is utilised to save the life of a butterfly, the others realise that Siddnie is valuable and worthy of friendship. Siddnie also comes to accept his difference and is happy about it.
