Alexander Hillebrandt
Alexander Hillebrandt s. 21.12.1716 Uppsalassa aloitti sotilasuransa 15-vuotiaana Ruotsin armeijassa. Hänen isänsä Johann Michael Hillebrandt liittyi KaarleXII armeijaan karoliinina ja yleni lopulta sodissa kapteeniksi. Johann taisteli mm. Mälkiällä, Napuella ja selvisi elossa hyiseltä kuolemanmarssilta eli Norjan sotaretkeltä 1718, jossa Kaarle XII sai surmansa. Monien sotien rasittamana Johann kuoli vuonna 1720 Ruotsissa. Hattujen sodassa venäläisiä vastaan Alexander Hillebrandt ylennettiin varusmestariksi 1941 ja samana vuonna vielä majoittajaksi. Sodan jatkuessa Alexander ylennettiin lippumieheksi v. 1742. Ertuğrul Bey önderliğinde Söğüt'e yerleşen Kayı aşireti, Osman Bey lider olunca gazalarını sürdürmüş ve yaptıkları akınlarla fetih dönemine girmiştir. Kulacahisar'ın fethiyle başlayan süreç, Karacahisar, Bilecik ve Yarhisar ve inegöl'ün fetihleriyle devam etmiştir. Bu dönem, Kayı aşiretinin Osmanlı Devleti'ne dönüştüğü dönemdir. Bilecik'in fethi romanda önemli yer tutar. Bilecik Tekfurunun düğününde Osman Beyi öldürme plânına karşı, Osman Bey'in kadın kılığındaki askerleri kaleye sokup, yakınlarda asker saklayıp, onların planını boşa çıkararak Bilecik'i fethetmesi romanın en can alıcı kısmı. East Central Europe in Exile Volume 1
The East Central Europe in Exile series consists of two volumes which contain chapters written by both esteemed and renowned scholars, as well as young, aspiring researchers whose work brings a fresh, innovative approach to the study of migration. Altogether, there are thirty-eight chapters in both volumes focusing on the East Central European émigré experience in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The first volume, Transatlantic Migrations, focuses on the reasons for emigration from the lands of East Central Europe; from the Baltic to the Adriatic, the intercontinental journey, as well as on the initial adaptation and assimilation processes. The second volume is slightly different in scope, for it focuses on the aspect of negotiating new identities acquired in the adopted homeland. The authors contributing to Transatlantic Identities focus on the preservation of the East Central European identity, maintenance of contacts with the “old country”, and activities pursued on behalf of, and for the sake of, the abandoned homeland. Combined, both volumes describe the transnational processes affecting East Central European migrants.
