A través de sendas entrevistas a trece escritoras españolas, la autora presenta el panorama de la narrativa española contemporánea creada por mujeres. Evitando cualquier aproximación academicista, abordan su concepción particular sobre el proceso literario, experiencias personales y opiniones sobre la situación de las mujeres en la España actual. Los resultados son sorprendentes: es unánime la aversión hacia la posibilidad de que sus obras se cataloguen como "literatura feminista" o "literatura de mujer", aunque todas desean ser conocidas como escritoras. La representación es camplia: desde las que empezaron a publicar en los años 60-70 (Ana Ma Moix y Esther Tusquets), pasando por quienes empezaron en los 80 (Josefina Aldecoa, Soledad Puértolas, Cristina Fernández Cubas y Ana Rossetti), hasta las que lo han hecho recientemente (Marta Sanz, Rosa Regás, Irene Gracia, Elvira Lindo, Juana Salabert, Dulce Chacón y Belén Gopegui). Este libro utiliza una aproximación sociohistórica al problema de la escritura de mujer en la Argentina contemporánea y examina cómo la represión (social y política) ha influido en la narrativa argentina actual. La autora analiza las novelas de la escritora Alina Diaconú y, a la vez, incluye testimonios de las entrevistas que realizó personalmente a escritoras argentinas como Leonor Calvera, María Esther Vázquez, María Rosa Lojo, Liliana Díaz Mindurry, Belén Gache, Esther Cross, Liliana Heer, Laura Nicastro y Mabel Pagano. La pluma y la represión cuestiona teorías feministas contemporáneas y su aplicación al ámbito de la creación literaria latinoamericana. Del mismo modo, se analizan desde un punto de vista feminista las relaciones de poder, el tema del deseo y de las políticas corporales y espaciales.

Mapping the Fiction of Cristina Fernández Cubas
Cristina Fernandez Cubas is, without question, one of the most important of the Spanish writers who have begun to publish since the end of the Franco dictatorship. Credited with playing a major role in the renaissance of the short story in Spain, she has won national and international acclaim for her fiction. Works by her have been translated into eight languages and have become a staple of university courses on contemporary Peninsular literature. Fernandez Cubas has created a remarkably coherent narrative world, nourished by a core of fundamental concerns. The eleven essays of Mapping the Fiction of Cristina Fernandez Cubas examine the intellectual preoccupations, narrative strategies, and rhetorical devices that distinguish the four volumes of short stories, two novels, the play, and the book of memoirs that she has published to date.
Life-writing in Carmen Martín Gaite's Cuadernos de Todo and Her Novels of the 1990s
Blanco examines the relationship between life-writing in Martín Gaite's notebooks and her fictional work. Carmen Martín Gaite (1925-2000) was one of the most important Spanish writers of the second half of the twentieth century. From the 1940s, until her death in 2000, she published short stories, novels, poetry, drama, children literature and cultural and historical studies. This book studies life writing in Martín Gaite's notebooks Cuadernos de todo (2002) and her novels of the 1990s, Nubosidad variable (1992), La Reina de las nieves (1994), Lo raro es vivir (1996) and Irse de casa (1998). It looks at the use of first person narration in Martín Gaite's work, drawing a parallel between the notebooks and her fictional work. It further analyses the waythe author's notebooks relate to the development of her later novels as well as the use of writing as therapy. This work offers a way of looking at Carmen Martín Gaite's work from a personal and intimate perspective.
