This book is broadly divided into two sections. A number of main themes are discussed in the first section, 'Chemical Structure and Thermoplastic Properties of Coal', covering such topics as the relationships between the chemical structures of coals and thermoplastic phenomena under heating, studies of higher-ordered agglutination structure of coals, kinetic analyses of thermal decomposition reactions, oxidation and dilatation/contraction of coal particles, and formation mechanisms of coke structure. In the second section, 'Simulation of Coal Pyrolysis and Coke Formation', mathematical formulation models are presented to show thermoplastic phenomena of coals, strengths of produced coke, and phenomena observed when heating coal particles in packed beds.
A sweeping work of original scholarship, Down and Out in Late Meiji Japan examines the daily lives of Japan’s hinmin (poor people), particularly urban slum-dwellers, in the late 1800s and early 1900s. James Huffman draws on newspaper articles, official surveys, and reminiscences to recreate for readers life as experienced by the poor themselves—something not attempted before in scholarship on this era. He begins by explaining the causes behind the fast-increasing numbers of poor neighborhoods in major cities after the late 1880s and goes on to describe in fascinating detail what those neighborhoods looked like and what their inhabitants did for a living: collecting night soil, weaving te...
Climate change is an issue that is highly debated around the globe. This book brings together the papers that were presented at a conference dedicated to this issue, held in Kyoto in October 2002. Covering a broad range of areas, the topics presented will benefit both those working in the field of carbon dioxide recovery and sequestration, and those looking at the effects of non carbon dioxide greenhouse gases. An overview of the Research and Design technologies which aid in mitigating climate change is included, which will be invaluable to those researching new opportunities for dealing with this problem. An area of research that has seen a rapid rise in worldwide spend Will benefit both researchers in climate change, and those looking at new technologies to help deal with the problem Presents papers from contributors spread around the globe means that this book has world wide relevance
In 1972, a very powerful catalytic cycle for carbon-carbon bond formation was 2 first discovered by the coupling reaction of Grignard reagents at the sp -carbon. Over the past 30 years, the protocol has been substantially improved and expanded to other coupling reactions of Li,B,N,O,Al,Si,P,S,Cu,Mn,Zn,In,Sn, and Hg compounds. These reactions provided an indispensable and simple methodology for preparative organic chemists. Due to the simplicity and rel- bility in the carbon-carbon, carbon-heteroatom, and carbon-metalloid bo- formations,as well as high efficiency of the catalytic process, the reactions have been widely employed by organic chemists in various fields. Application of the protocol...
