This book chronicles the battle for the historic preservation of the King Bowstring Bridge in Newfield, New York, built in 1873 by Zenas King. King is known as one of the most prolific iron bridge builders of the 19th century. While once there were 10,000 King iron bridges across the country, now only hundreds remain. Organizing amateur and professional preservationist across the US, Karen Van Etten managed to save the beautiful, disintegrating bridge, which 100 years before had joined this once thriving agricultural community together.

In August of 1862, during the second summer of the American Civil War, Gabriel R. Ballard, a teenage farmer from the quiet hills of upstate New York, signed up to fight for the preservation of his country. 'Gabriel' is a fictitious interpretation of said soldier's experiences in that war, from the day of his enlistment to his participation as a marauding "bummer" in General Sherman's infamous March to the Sea. Praise for Gabriel"Matthew Watros has written a heartfelt and wonderfully evocative Civil War novel that brings to life his ancestor Gabriel and the dramatic times in which he lived. A true storyteller."Robert J. Mrazek, Award-winning author of The Indomitable Florence FinchMatthew J. Watros served four years as a rifleman in the United States Marine Corps, where he did a tour of duty in Iraq and spent three months on a Navy ship in the Caribbean. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in 2010 and now happily lives back home in upstate New York with his wife and three children. He makes his living as a career firefighter.

In a massive surge southward, Sherman conquers the city of Atlanta, sweeping aside the Confederate army under the inept leadership o...

Who Was Who on TV

The information herein was accumulated of fifty some odd years. The collection process started when TV first came out and continued until today. The books are in alphabetical order and cover shows from the 1940s to 2010. The author has added a brief explanation of each show and then listed all the characters, who played the roles and for the most part, the year or years the actor or actress played that role. Also included are most of the people who created the shows, the producers, directors, and the writers of the shows. These books are a great source of trivia information and for most of the older folk will bring back some very fond memories. I know a lot of times we think back and say, "Who was the guy that played such and such a role?" Enjoy!

When computers freeze, they are "rebooted" and soon working properly again. Similarly, legendary thinkers throughout history have argued that Christianity should start fresh by recapturing the humanitarian spirit of Jesus' original message. These include such disparate individuals as Thomas Jefferson, Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, Walt Whitman, Friedrich Nietzsche, Leo Tolstoy, George Bernard Shaw, and the religious leaders of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Surprisingly enough, even classic television shows and films meant to be entertaining--Lost, Battlestar Galactica, It's a Wonderful Life, Groundhog Day, Decalogue, and A Charlie Brown Christmas--are attempts to apply the basic principle...
