Heather, The Totality

The Breakstone family arrange themselves around their daughter Heather, and the world seems to follow: beautiful, compassionate, entrancing, she is the greatest blessing in their lives of Manhattan luxury. But as Heather grows - and her empathy sharpens to a point, and her radiance attracts more and more dark interest - their perfect existence starts to fracture. Meanwhile a very different life, one raised in poverty and in violence, is beginning its own malign orbit around Heather. Matthew Weiner - the creator of Mad Men - has crafted an extraordinary first novel of incredible pull and menace. Heather, The Totality demonstrates perfectly his forensic eye for the human qualities that hold modern society together, and pull it apart.

A Pound of Cure

A Pound of Cure was written by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon, who has identified a style of eating that can bring about the same metabolic changes seen after gastric bypass surgery. The shifts in your metabolism that block hunger and prevent weight loss plateaus after surgery can be obtained by focusing your diet on nutrient rich foods like fruits and vegetables. The style of eating outlined shows you how to use food to control hunger, eliminate cravings and prevent a slow down in your metabolism that plagues typical starvation diets.A Pound of Cure is a step by step guide that shows you how to change your style of eating sensibly, over time. Each of the 12 changes, or "stations" o...

Difficult Men

A revealing look at the shows that helped TV emerge as the signature art form of the twenty-first century In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the landscape of television began an unprecedented transformation. While the networks continued to chase the lowest common denominator, a wave of new shows on cable channels dramatically stretched television’s narrative inventiveness, emotional resonance, and artistic ambition. Combining deep reportage with cultural analysis and historical context, Brett Martin recounts the rise and inner workings of a genre that represents not only a new golden age for TV, but also a cultural watershed. Difficult Men features extensive interviews with all the major players, including David Chase, David Simon, David Milch, and Alan Ball; in addition to other writers, executives, directors and actors. Martin delivers never-before-heard story after story, revealing how cable television became a truly significant and influential part of our culture.

Matthew Weiner s series "Mad Men," garnering awards, fandom and critical acclaim, has come to be viewed as a powerful time capsule. Given the precision with which the show invokes the visual culture as well as the political scene of the 1960s, it has been prasied for bringing back to the T.V. screen this watershed moment in American history. In her sophisticated study, Elisabeth Bronfen treats Lionsgate s serial drama, that aired from 2007-2015, as a signficant DVD novel of the early 21st century. Her claim is that it not only thrives on a significant double voicing, reviving the literature, film, music and fashion of the past "within" and "for" the cultural concerns of the present, and as s...

How Weight Loss Surgery Really Works is the second book by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon and host of a popular Bariatric Surgery YouTube channel. In his new book, Dr. Weiner describes how the hormonal changes that alter your brain, fat stores and hunger signals are the most important component of weight loss surgery, rather than the portion control effects that have been emphasized in the past. These important shifts in your metabolic state are what should govern all of the decisions you make before and after weight loss surgery. Dr. Weiner outlines many of the hidden factors that have contributed to your weight gain that must be corrected if you hope to be successful after surgery...
