O estudo de que se ocupa o presente livro centra-se numa obra em que se confundem textos de vários autores, e numa época em que à organização da vida na polis se abrem caminhos novos. Delimitar o âmbito da autenticidade de toda a colectânea em estudo é, pelo contrário, uma questão a que se têm dado múltiplas respostas, especialmente no que respeita ao Livro II. De todas estas dificuldades tem pleno conhecimento a autora, que logo no título do seu trabalho escreve Theognidea, e não Theognis, e que, neste mare magnum, seleciona três temas principais: vida política, amizade, amor. Especial realce merece o anexo com a tradução direta e integral do Corpus Theognideum, feita com rigor e qualidade literária. Tanto quanto sabemos, apenas estavam vertidos para português, até à data, uns centro e trinta versos. Temos agora, finalmente, a coletânea completa, tal como a revelou o mais antigo manuscrito conhecido, o Paris: suppl. gr. 388. Deste modo se tornou acessível a um público mais vasto uma obra que não interessa menos aos historiadores e sociólogos do que aos estudiosos de literatura.
