Während die Berner Theatergeschichte der Frühneuzeit mit den Protagonisten Niklaus Manuel und Hans von Rüte nicht nur innerhalb der Schweiz zu den wissenschaftlich am besten erschlossenen zählt, erfreute sich die weniger spektakuläre Kleinbühnenkunst des in der Stadt und Herrschaft Bern gleichzeitig nicht minder üppig florierenden Liedschaffens einer weit geringeren wissenschaftlichen Aufmerksamkeit. Die vorliegende Monographie will daher rund um die Zentralfigur des ungewöhnlich produktiven Sängerdichters Bendicht Gletting (um 1490–1564/65) einen möglichst facettenreichen Einblick in die blühende Berner Liedermacherszene jener Tage vermitteln. So werden – außer der ausführlich kommentierten Edition der rund fünfzig von Gletting erhaltenen Lieder – in einer übergreifenden Einführung alle neben ihm oder in seinem Gefolge wirkenden namentlich bekannten und anonymen Berner Dichterkollegen näher vorgestellt. Und ebenso kommen auch die zentralen publizistischen Aspekte der Herstellung, Verbreitung, Rezeption und Überlieferung der seit dem frühen 16. Jahrhundert immer öfter als gedruckte Flugschriften veröffentlichten Lieder zur Sprache.

The Cambridge History of German Literature
This is the first book to describe German literary history up to the unification of Germany in 1990. It takes a fresh look at the main authors and movements, and also asks what Germans in a given period were actually reading and writing, what they would have seen at the local theatre or found in the local lending library; it includes, for example, discussions of literature in Latin as well as in German, eighteenth-century letters and popular novels, Nazi literature and radio plays, and modern Swiss and Austrian literature. Literature without Frontiers
This volume explores the indispensability of a transnational perspective for the construction and writing of literary histories of the Low Countries from 1200- 1800.
