Ethnien in Burma: Eine anthropologische Analyse
Das südostasiatische Land Burma zeichnet sich durch eine große Vielfalt an unterschiedlichen Ethnien aus. Der thematische Rahmen dieser Studie zielt darauf ab, hinsichtlich Ethnizität in Burma Kontinuitäten und/oder Diskontinuitäten aufzuzeigen. Dazu gilt es zuerst einmal in die burmesische Geschichte einzuführen und Begriffsdefinitionen zu erläutern. Ethnizität wird anhand der theoretischen Sichtweisen Primordialismus, Instrumentalismus und Konstruktivismus allgemein dargestellt. Historische Begebenheiten in Bezug auf Ethnizität, ethnische Klassifizierungen sowie die Beziehungen zwischen Tiefland- und Hochlandbevölkerung sind speziell an Burma ausgerichtet. Abschließend wird die vorkoloniale Phase dahingehend untersucht, inwiefern es zu dieser Zeit schon Ethnien und in Verbindung damit Ethnizität gegeben hat oder ob dies erst durch den Kolonialismus und den modernen Nationalstaat entstanden ist.
