Energy efficiency and low-carbon technologies are key contributors to curtailing the emission of greenhouse gases that continue to cause global warming. The efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions also strongly affect electrical power systems. Renewable sources, storage systems, and flexible loads provide new system controls, but power system operators and utilities have to deal with their fluctuating nature, limited storage capabilities, and typically higher infrastructure complexity with a growing number of heterogeneous components. In addition to the technological change of new components, the liberalization of energy markets and new regulatory rules bring contextual change that necess...
In recent decades, there has been many attempts to describe, explore, and explain the new ‘post-modern’ capitalism of the twenty-first century. In this context, this book looks at one of the most exciting strands of this research in the late twentieth century: the flexible specialisation research programme (FSRP). Drawing on the history of ideas, discourse, and literature on capitalism of the last four decades, this book shows that although ‘flexible specialisation’ anticipated some of the ways in which capitalism was being transformed in the late twentieth century, they underestimated and failed to anticipate the forms of ‘creative destruction’ and corporate digital control whic...

This book includes extended and revised versions of a set of selected papers from the 17th International Conference on Software Technologies, ICSOFT 2022, held in Lisbon, Portugal, during July 11–13, 2022. The 10 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 102 submissions. They were organized in topical sections as follows: tool assisted empirical approach to reusability models assessment; functional programming; three forms of mutant subsumption: basic, strict and broad; and on the efficiency of building large collections of software: modeling, algorithms, and experimental results.
The Internet of Things (IoT) has seen the eventual shift to the "Internet of Everything" in the recent years, unveiling its ubiquitous presence spanning from smart transports to smart healthcare, from smart education to smart shopping. With the 5G rollouts across the different countries of the world, it raises newer perspectives toward the integration of 5G in IoT. For IoT-based smart devices, 5G not only means speed, but also better stability, efficiency, and more secure connectivity. The reach of 5G in IoT is extending in multifarious areas like self-driving vehicles, smart grids for renewable energy, AI-enabled robots on factory floors, intelligent healthcare services . . . The endless li...
