Thousands of years ago Playground of the Gods (PoG) sank and settled onto the ocean floor, intact and dormant, like the city of Atlantis. Only once per century are all the planets properly aligned to raise the sleeping island from the bottom of the sea. However the light of the blue moon must shine into a witchs circle assembled with powerful elements of fire, earth, air and water. Flash forward to the twenty first century on the island of Manhattan, Jack and Gwen are anxious to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and travel to a secluded vacation spot known for its rich history and folklore. After fifteen years of marriage Jack knew Gwen pretty well and thats why he thought it would be easy to plan a surprise vacation to celebrate her fortieth birthday. But soon after arriving on the secluded island Gwen began having vivid dreams of supernatural creatures with sapphire blue eyes. These beings possessed the ability to shift into the shape of a deer, could breathe underwater and all six senses were wildly enhanced in both human and animal form. The more Gwen learned about these mysterious shapeshifters, the more she began to question her own unknown past.
She Animates examines the work of twelve female animation directors in the Soviet Union and Russia, who have long been overlooked by film scholars and historians. Our approach examines these directors within history, culture, and industrial practice in animation. In addition to making a case for including these women and their work in the annals of film and animation history, this volume also makes an argument for why their work should be considered part of the tradition of women’s cinema. We offer textual analysis that focuses on the changing attitudes towards both the woman question and feminism by examining the films in light of the emergence and evolution of a Soviet female subjectivity that still informs women’s cinema in Russia today.
Giochino Rossini: A Research and Information Guide is designed as a tool for those beginning to study the life and works of Gioachino Rossini as well as for those who wish to explore beyond the established biographies and commentaries. The first edition was published in 2001, and represented a survey of some 878 publications relating to the composer’s life and works. The second edition is revised and updated to include the more than 150 books and articles written in the field of Rossini studies since then. Contents range from sources published in the early decades of the nineteenth century to works currently in progress. General subject areas include Rossini's biography, historical and analytical studies of his operatic and non-operatic compositions, his personal and professional associations, and the reassessment of his role in the development of nineteenth-century music.

This book explores the consequences of unbridled expansion of neoliberal values within India through the lens of popular film and culture. The focus of the book is the neoliberal self, which, far from being a stable marker of urban, liberal, millennial Indian identity, has a schizophrenic quality, one that is replete with contradictions and oppositions, unable to sustain the weight of its own need for self-promotion, optimism, and belief in a narrative of progress and prosperity that has marked mainstream cultural discourse in India. The unstable and schizophrenic neoliberal identity that is the concern of this book, however, belies this narrative and lays bare the sense of precarity and inherent inequality that neoliberal regimes confer upon their subjects. The analysis is explicitly political and draws upon theories of feminist media studies, popular culture analyses, and film studies to critique mainstream Hindi cinema texts produced in the last two decades. Rele Sathe also examine a variety of other peripheral ‘texts’ in her analysis such as the film star, the urban space, web series, YouTube videos, and social media content.
