The efficacy of the EIA lies in meticulously applying the theory and concepts of the EIA in framing environmental policies and regulations, conducting and reviewing the EIA studies and EIA follow-up. This book critically examines the different components of the Indian EIA practice and highlights the learnings. Given that the case study method is well-recognized for learning and is accepted in top-ranking institutions, the book will immensely benefit academics in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental planning, environmental management, business management, project management, economics and public administration at graduate and research levels. It should provoke researchers to pursue empirical studies and to devise innovative methodologies to evaluate different elements of the EIA practice to help ensure EIA objectivity. The book will also be handy to environment ministries, EIA professionals, project proponents and multilateral institutions, such as the UNEP, World Bank, ADB, AfDB, ODA and ENGOs.
This volume provides an overview of the climate change adaptation objectives set, actions taken, and challenges faced by several countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The majority of the populations in this region struggle to make a living from subsistence agriculture, and livelihoods are highly dependent on natural ecosystem services which are likely to be severely affected by climate change. Cases discussed in this book highlight successes made by governments towards achieving adaptation objectives, and efforts required to overcome challenges. While significant economic advances have been made, the pace of growth has been slow to impact the lives of a majority of the people who live below the poverty line. The chapters highlight adaptation actions for protecting people and their livelihoods in priority sectors, maintaining food and water security, supporting socio-economic stability including poverty reduction, and climate risk management. This book also maximizes readers' insights into the knowledge gaps and limitations of stated adaptation goals, and the bottlenecks that hinder implementation in different regions.

Women’s equal participation and leadership in political and public life can boost a country’s long-term economic growth, foster social inclusion, and help countries reach the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Beyond these important outcomes, women’s inclusion in public life is a basic human right: Women deserve a role in making decisions, controlling resources, and shaping policies. Despite the importance of women’s voices and their empowerment in policy and decision-making processes, available metrics show that women’s policy and political empowerment remains low. Moreover, these metrics are inadequate in systematically tracking women’s voices and empowerment across dif...
