Understanding Islam - 52 Friday Lectures
For many years I have felt the need for two things: Juma Khutbaat which are relevant to contemporary issues, delivered in simple language and idiom easily understood by common people and from which they can clearly take home application lessons. For the Khateeb it is always a challenge, having to think of an idea, researching material to support it, put it together as a Khutba and delivering it. I know how much of a help it is to have ready material on hand. With that in mind I decided to publish this book of 52 Khutbas (good for the full year which has 52 weeks) which I delivered at our Masjid on Road # 9, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad (Mahmood Habib Masjid and Islamic Centre), in the hope that those who have to give Khutbas will find it useful. Naturally I hope that this book will be useful and indeed enjoyable and a source of guidance and application of the Islamic Way in our lives, not only for Khateebs but also for all those who wish to read it and take heed of the subjects. Islam for Beginners
It has been said that true bankruptcy is a full belly and an empty soul. Religion must be a matter of conscious choice. Not a matter of accidental birth. Because on it depends our peace of mind, how we view the world, our relationships with others, what choices we make and the results of those choices in this life and the Hereafter. What we choose to believe or reject must be done thoughtfully after due reflection and investigation because our present and our everlasting future both depend on it. It can't be left to incidental following of traditions and customs we don't even know the origin or meanings of just because our parents or elders used to do them. One's spiritual journey is as important if not more, as one's journey in this life in terms of one's career or other criteria and so deserves an equal mindshare and effort.I wish you all the best in your quest for knowledge and pray that you are guided to the truth because in the end it is essential that we know what the truth is and that we believe it and prepare for it. It is the nature of reality that it does not depend on belief for its existence and that one day it has to be faced whether we chose to believe in it or not.
Journey of Faith
Some of my friends have been asking me to write about my own spiritual journey in Islam. How did it begin? Maybe why? What did I find useful and beneficial? What was difficult and what gave me the most joy? Though I was born in a Muslim family, belief is a matter of conscious acceptance, not of accidental birth. The Juma is a unique opportunity given to the Khateeb every week, 52 times a year, for which he doesnt need to spend time, money or energy, to influence a captive audience. Perhaps for this reason - because it is free - it is mostly squandered. To influence you must prepare. This book is to help those who are interested, to prepare. This is a collection of 52 Juma lectures delivered on various topical subjects which is offered to any Khateeb who wants to use it. Influence comes from content and delivery. This is content. Seerah Is the Answer
We live in a world today that is characterized by disparity; of income, education, opportunity, power, access, and freedom in almost every sphere of life.
