The book presents new results of research advancing the field and applications of modulation. The information contained herein is important for improving the performance of modern and future wireless communication systems (CS) and networks. Chapters cover such topics as amplitude modulation, orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) signals, electro-optic lithium niobate (LiNbO3) modulators for optical communications, radio frequency signals, and more.
A very practical comprehensive introduction to all currently used forms of modulation and recovery of electronic signals with an emphasis on their applications.
Institutional book, not really for bookstore catalogue The book contains valuable information structured to provide insight on how to design SC sigma-delta modulators. It presents architectures, circuits, models, methods and practical considerations for the design of high-performance low-pass switched-capacitor (SC) sigma-delta A/D interfaces for mixed-signal CMOS ASICs. The main focus of the book is on cascade architectures. It differs from other books in the complete, in-depth coverage of SC circuit errors.
This book provides a theoretical discussion of pulse width modulation (PWM) in power electronic inverters. Pulse width modulation is widely used for the frequency control of speed of ac motors, the design of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) as well as the integration of renewable energy sources into existing power grid systems. PWM technique is based on approximation of sinusoidal waveforms by sequences (trains) of rectangular pulses whose widths are properly modulated. This width-modulation results in the suppression of low order harmonics at the expense of amplification of high order harmonics which are suppressed by energy-storage elements in load circuits. The discussion covers various PWM techniques with a focus on the optimal time-domain PWM techniques proposed by the authors.
This book is a technical publication for students, scholars and engineers in electrical engineering, focusing on the pulse-width-modulation (PWM) technologies in power electronics area. Based on an introduction of basic PWM principles this book analyzes three major challenges for PWM on system performance: power losses, voltage/current ripple and electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise, and the lack of utilization of control freedoms in conventional PWM technologies. Then, the model of PWM's impact on system performance is introduced, with the current ripple prediction method for voltage source converter as example. With the prediction model, two major advanced PWM methods are introduced: v...
This book is intended for students and professionals who are interested in the field of digital signal processing of delta-sigma modulated sequences. The overall focus is on the development of algorithms and circuits for linear, non-linear, and mixed mode processing of delta-sigma modulated pulse streams. The material presented here is directly relevant to applications in digital communication, DSP, instrumentation, and control.

* The first single volume resource for researchers in the field who previously had to depend on separate papers and conference records to attain a working knowledge of the subject. * Brings together the field's diverse approaches into an integrated and comprehensive theory of PWM
This important book deals with the modeling and design of higher-order single-stage delta-sigma modulators. It provides an overview of the architectures, the quantizer models, the design techniques and the implementation issues encountered in the study of the delta-sigma modulators. A number of applications are discussed, with emphasis on use in the design of analog-to-digital converters and in frequency synthesis. The book is education- rather than research-oriented, containing numerical examples and unsolved problems. It is aimed at introducing the final-year undergraduate, the graduate student or the electronic engineer to this field. Contents: Analog to Digital Conversion; ou Modulators OCo Architectures; Single-Bit Single-Stage ou Modulators, Modeling and Design; Implementation of ou Modulators; Practical Limitations of ou Modulators; Stabilization and Suppression of Tones for the Higher-Order Single-Stage ou Modulators; Decimation, Interpolation and Converters; Applications. Readership: Final-year undergraduates; graduate students; electrical, electronic and systems engineers."
Electronics and Instrumentation, Volume 35: Modulation, Resolution and Signal Processing in Radar, Sonar and Related Systems presents the practical limitations and potentialities of advanced modulation systems. This book discusses the concepts and techniques in the radar context, but they are equally essential to sonar and to a wide range of signaling and data-processing applications, including seismology, radio astronomy, and band-spread communications. Organized into 15 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the principal developments sought in pulse radar. This text then provides a discussion and analysis of a wide range of various modulation systems. Other chapters consider the intrinsic Doppler resolving power of a radar system. This book discusses as well the power illuminating a radar or sonar target that may be comprised of one or more discrete pulses. The final chapter deals with the transmitter-modulator circuits and valves. This book is a valuable resource for electronic engineers and scientists.
