'Lawrence of Arabia' became world-famous during the Arab Revolt of 1916-18. However, his achievements would have been impossible without the efforts of an unsung band of fellow officers and spies. Their compelling and forgotten stories provide a new perspective on Lawrence and the renowned WWI campaign.
A controversial, wide ranging and clearly documented survey of the state of the global environment.
In this timely work, Ross Michael Pink and Luthfi Dhofier detail specific case studies across eight countries to provide a crucial overview of the impacts of climate change. They highlight the importance of the human security paradigm, prioritising the rights of citizens rather than those of nations, to accurately assess this existential issue.
This open access book brings together research studies, developments, and application-related flash flood topics on wadi systems in arid regions. The major merit of this comprehensive book is its focus on research and technical papers as well as case study applications in different regions worldwide that cover many topics and answer several scientific questions. The book chapters comprehensively and significantly highlight different scientific research disciplines related to wadi flash floods, including climatology, hydrological models, new monitoring techniques, remote sensing techniques, field investigations, international collaboration projects, risk assessment and mitigation, sedimentati...
Vol. 2: Técnicas de evaluación de la intrusión marina. Estado de la intrusión marina en los países mediterráneos.
With rapid advancements in AI, this book reveals how AI can be a powerful tool in reducing pollution and fostering sustainability. It highlights the integration of geospatial techniques with AI for enhancing capabilities in mapping, analysis, and mitigation of environmental pollution. Starting with foundational concepts in AI, geospatial technology, and pollution, the book addresses air, water, soil and thermal pollution, emphasizing their harmful impacts. Through real-world case studies and advanced research, it showcases AI and geospatial technology's revolutionary role in pollution mitigation, exploring AI-driven sensors, satellite imagery, and associated networks for precise and efficient pollution monitoring and management.
This edited volume provides a variety of insights into the context in which ocean and wetlands policy is placed at the sub-continental level. The governments of Mexico, Canada, and United States of America have recognized the importance of conserving, protecting, and enhancing the environment in their territories. As a result, they have developed an institutional structure aimed at furthering environmental cooperation. However, marine environment has played a secondary role, characterized by scientific cooperation that does not develop into regional policies. This project analyzes how ocean and wetlands preservation is omitted from the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation, meaning that collaborative efforts under-perform or remain largely sidelined from mainstream issues. As contributors come from a mix of the social and natural sciences (politics, international relations, law studies, sociology, oceanology, and oceanography), this book presents diverse viewpoints on how to address wetlands protection, deep ocean research collaboration, and the marine context of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Environmental Security in Africa: Conflicts, Politics, and Development investigates the nature, scope, and dimension of environmental security in Africa from a multidisciplinary perspective to examines the history, theories, spatial patterns, sociocultural, socioeconomic consequences, and legal ramifications of Africa’s environmental concerns. This book is grounded in theories that cut across the social, behavioral, and environmental sciences, arguing that environmental security is a multifaceted subject intricately linked to global climate change and magnified by globalization. Drawing from case studies across different parts of Africa, Elisha Jasper Dung, Leonard Sitji Bombom, Augustine ...
The second volume of this comprehensive global perspective on Integrated Drought Management is focused on drought modeling, meteorological prediction, and the use of remote sensing in assessing, analyzing, and monitoring drought. It discusses risk management, planning, policy, and societal impacts of drought such as water pricing, water transfer, water quality, and crop insurance. Through numerous case studies from India, Iran, Brazil, the US, Nepal, and other countries that cover a broad range of topics and geographical regions, this volume serves as a valuable resource for all professionals, researchers, and academics who want to advance their knowledge about droughts. Groundwater management and conservation becomes a more and more important issue in the heavily urbanized coastal zones of the Asia-Pacific region. This volume presents a comprehensive overview of the status of coastal groundwater research in this diverse region. It includes latest methodologies and technologies to assess processes associated with coastal groundwater development. Case studies and local examples from a broad geographical range of continental shoreline and island settings give an understanding of the diversity of coastal aquifers and the groundwater recourses they harbour. Audience: By providing a clearer understanding of the hydrogeological and hydrochemical processes, this volume offers a critical tool to coastal researchers, geoscientists in related fields, water engineers, groundwater managers and decision makers as it illustrates the human and environmental impacts on coastal groundwater resources and the relationship to coastal zone management strategies and the development of sustainable management approaches.
