Logic in Tehran

Since their inception, the Perspectives in Logic and Lecture Notes in Logic series have published seminal works by leading logicians. Many of the original books in the series have been unavailable for years, but they are now in print once again. This volume, the twenty-sixth publication in the Lecture Notes in Logic series, contains the proceedings of the 'Workshop and Conference on Logic, Algebra and Arithmetic' held at the Institute for Studies in Theoretical Physics and Mathematics (IPM) in Tehran, Iran in October, 2003. These papers are mostly revised and expanded versions of those that were originally presented at the meeting and address all areas of mathematical logic. The book also includes a short history of mathematical logic in Iran.

Analytic And Combinatorial Number Theory: The Legacy Of Ramanujan - Contributions In Honor Of Bruce C. Berndt

This volume reflects the contributions stemming from the conference Analytic and Combinatorial Number Theory: The Legacy of Ramanujan which took place at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on June 6-9, 2019. The conference included 26 plenary talks, 71 contributed talks, and 170 participants. As was the case for the conference, this book is in honor of Bruce C Berndt and in celebration of his mathematics and his 80th birthday.Along with a number of papers previously appearing in Special Issues of the International Journal of Number Theory, the book collects together a few more papers, a biography of Bruce by Atul Dixit and Ae Ja Yee, a preface by George Andrews, a gallery of photos from the conference, a number of speeches from the conference banquet, the conference poster, a list of Bruce's publications at the time this volume was created, and a list of the talks from the conference.

Nonstandard Methods and Applications in Mathematics

Since their inception, the Perspectives in Logic and Lecture Notes in Logic series have published seminal works by leading logicians. Many of the original books in the series have been unavailable for years, but they are now in print once again. This volume, the twenty-fifth publication in the Lecture Notes in Logic series, grew from a conference on Nonstandard Methods and Applications in Mathematics held in Pisa, Italy from 12–16 June, 2002. It contains ten peer-reviewed papers that aim to provide something more timely than a textbook, but less ephemeral than a conventional proceedings. Nonstandard analysis is one of the great achievements of modern applied mathematical logic. These articles consider the foundations of the subject, as well as its applications to pure and applied mathematics and mathematics education.

Categoricity

"Modern model theory began with Morley's categoricity theorem: A countable first-order theory that has a unique (up to isomorphism) model in one uncountable cardinal (i.e., is categorical in cardinality) if and only if the same holds in all uncountable cardinals. Over the last 35 years Shelah made great strides in extending this result to infinitary logic, where the basic tool of compactness fails. He invented the notion of an Abstract Elementary Class to give a unifying semantic account of theories in first-order, infinitary logic and with some generalized quantifiers. Zilber developed similar techniques of infinitary model theory to study complex exponentiation." "This book provides the fi...
