The story of Growing Up on Mount Desert Island MAINE is actually the true story of two generations. First, the life and times of my father and his siblings from 1923 to 1965. And then, second is the life and times of my siblings and especially myself from 1947 to 1972. Those times were remarkable and dramatic. It covers pre-World War II, the war years, the innocence of the 1950s and the wild flower child era of the 1960s into the 1970s. Living one's life on Mount Desert Island is actually a microcosm of safety, innocence, and love for one's peers (meaning Down Eastahs) and neighbors.
