This is a set of key articles which deal with various aspects of the life of Muhammad: the Muslim authors of Muhammad’s biography, the major events in his life, the development of the idealised image of Muhammad, and the image of Muhammad in the eyes of early medieval non-Muslim writers. "Powerful...Iyer catalogues the toll that various forms of discrimination have taken and highlights the inspiring ways activists are fighting back. [She] is an ideal chronicler of this experience." —The Washington Post The nationally renowned racial justice advocate's illumination of the ongoing persecution of a range of American minorities In the lead-up to the recent presidential election, Donald Trump called for a complete ban on Muslims entering the United States, surveillance against mosques, and a database for all Muslims living in the country, tapping into anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim hysteria to a degree little seen since the targeting of South Asian, Arab, Muslim, and Sikh people i...

This is the first study in English of the political history of Muslim Spain and Portugal, based on Arab sources. It provides comprehensive coverage of events across the whole of the region from 711 to the fall of Granada in 1492. Up till now the history of this region has been badly neglected in comparison with studies of other states in medieval Europe. When considered at all, it has been largely written from Christian sources and seen in terms of the Christian Reconquest. Hugh Kennedy raises the profile of this important area, bringing the subject alive with vivid translations from Arab sources. This will be fascinating reading for historians of medieval Europe and for historians of the middle east drawing out the similarities and contrasts with other areas of the Muslim world.

Lastly, the author links knowledge to love as poles that, although exoterically appearing as opposites, esoterically define the global human reality vis-a-vis the Divine mandate. Throughout this book the author is concerned not only with the philosophical and logical basis of Islam in isolation, but with the nature of this basis as it establishes the intellectual, religious and spiritual foundations of the modern Muslim, enabling him, at a personal level, to shed the mysteries and paradoxes of the human condition.

Islam and Democracy

A few years ago, Imam Rauf wrote a book entitled: 'What's Right With Islam'. That work offers an excellent opportunity to not only critically explore Imam Rauf's perspective concerning topics such as: 9/11, Islam, shari'ah, Islamic government, constitutional principles, the Bill of Rights, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Sufi path, but, as well, the foregoing sort of discussions will provide an opportunity to develop, hopefully, a more constructive way of engaging issues of democracy and sovereignty.
