The event convened many prominent lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender activists and political leaders to celebrate what was expected to be a positive outcome in the Supreme Court case regarding the legal status of same-sex marriages. John Laughlin, Sr. (ca. 1710-1783) was born in County Down, Ireland. In 1735 he married Jane Mathews (Matthews, Mathias) who was born in Belfast in 1714. They were married in Northern Ireland and left for America in about 1740. They settled first in Pennsylvania and then in the Holston River Valley of Tennessee, later moving to Coles Co., Illinois. Descendants and relatives lived in Tennessee, Illinois, Iowa, and elsewhere.
