An unexpected take on how games work, what the stakes are for them, and how game designers can avoid the traps of optimization. The process of optimization in games seems like a good thing—who wouldn’t want to find the most efficient way to play and win? As Christopher Paul argues in Optimizing Play, however, optimization can sometimes risk a tragedy of the commons, where actions that are good for individuals jeopardize the overall state of the game for everyone else. As he explains, players inadvertently limit play as they theorycraft, seeking optimal choices. The process of developing a meta, or the most effective tactic available, structures decision making, causing play to stagnate. ...

I've read and studied the history of slavery most of my life. I know that there are many who would like to know more about the history of slavery. the inhuman treatment of a people kept in bondage. Writing this book I feel will give those who want to know more, like the younger generation, regardless of their ethnic background to know and understand what slavery was about. Growing up in the South, in the Civil Rights era, I have experienced first hand the cruelty of one human being to another. As a Child I heard the many stories of slavery, from my grandparents who learned from their parents about slaves in America. This part of history was not taught in schools, but my novel although a fiction tells the true story of a people that lived in human bondage.

The diction and imagery employed to drive the pieces are the children’s own. The simplicity of delivery and depth of content are the hallmarks of their being. The poems mirror the children’s own aspirations, dreams, fears, day dreams and takes on different issues that affect their lives and society. The pieces give wings to their inner voices – voices that at times are stifled. They give freedom to the inner spirit to soar and perch on the choicest branches and take in the sights. Allow the magic of the words here enthrall and entertain you.
