The PROFILE OF LOVE & COURAGE is a book with articles sharing the faith and poignant memories of Elmer Abear’s childhood in the beloved City of Argao, Cebu, Philippines. In this book, the author, Elmer, touches on science in relation to faith. In addition, Elmer also included passed down stories of past generations of the Abear clan, depicting his early life growing up in Argao. For centuries, the Chinese have been intermarrying with inhabitants of the Philippines, resulting in a creolized community of Chinese mestizos under the Spanish colonial regime. In contemporary Philippine society, the “Chinese” are seen as a racialized “Other” while descendants from early Chinese-Filipino intermarriages as “Filipino.” Previous scholarship attributes this development to the identification of Chinese mestizos with the equally “Hispanicized” and “Catholic” indios.
