From the Gallery website: The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2013 is designed by multi award-winning Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto. He is the thirteenth and, at 41, youngest architect to accept the invitation to design a temporary structure for the Serpentine Gallery. The most ambitious architectural programme of its kind worldwide, the Serpentine's annual Pavilion commission is one of the most anticipated events on the cultural calendar. Past Pavilions have included designs by Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei (2012), Frank Gehry (2008), the late Oscar Niemeyer (2003) and Zaha Hadid, who designed the inaugural structure in 2000. Herzog and de Meuron / Ai Weiwei: Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2012
The design team responsible for the celebrated Beijing National Stadium, which was built for the 2008 Olympic Games, comes together again in London in 2012 for the Serpentine's acclaimed annual commission, being presented as part of the London 2012 Festival, the culmination of the Cultural Olympiad. The Pavilion is Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei's first collaborative built structure in the UK.This year's Pavilion will take visitors beneath the Serpentine's lawn to explore the hidden history of its previous Pavilions. Eleven columns characterising each past Pavilion and a twelfth column representing the current structure will support a floating platform roof 1.4 metres above ground.The Pavilion's interior is clad in cork, a sustainable building material chosen for its unique qualities and to echo the excavated earth.

Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2007
Olafur Eliasson is based in Berlin where he has established Studio Olafur Eliasson, a laboratory for spatial research. His work explores the relationship between individuals and their surroundings, as experienced in his awe-inspiring large-scale installation The weather project (2003) at Tate Modern, London. Kjetil Thorsen is co-founder of Snoehetta, one of Scandinavia's leading architectural practices, with offices in Oslo and New York. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Egypt 1995-2001, is the commission that brought Snoehetta to international acclaim.

Paul Chan
The American artist Paul Chan has gained international acclaim for his video work, drawings and installations that blend a novel drafting aesthetic with philosophical reflections on politics, religion, sex and life. This beautifully produced monograph, published on the occasion of Chan's highly anticipated one-person exhibition at New York's recently unveiled New Museum of Contemporary Art, presents the first significant overview of his work. Spanning from the late 1990s through today, it is named for Chan's most recent project, The 7 Lights (2005-07), a series of large-scale digital projections and drawings that "hallucinate" the Seven Days of Creation. Paul Chan was born in Hong Kong in 1973 and raised in Nebraska. Currently based in New York, he is represented by Greene Naftali Gallery and has had solo museum exhibitions at The Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia; the Blanton Museum of Art, Austin; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; and the UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles.
