This book will deal with arguments that analyze the Vatican policies of Francis, during the first seven years of his pontificate, in relation to some of the most urgent questions concerning humanity: migrants and refugees, the economy, and ecology. The logical choice of the time period for this work is given by Jorge Bergoglio's ascent to the "chair of St. Peter" until the end of 2019. That is why there is an interrelationship between history and the present, since it is written—in part—as his apostolic journeys, interventions, diplomatic actions, and discourses are carried out. To this is added an important quantity of writings of his authorship, as well as of some of his predecessors, in order to frame the question in a historically correct way and to understand his approach to issues of politics and international diplomacy, given his investiture as a religious and—at the same time—political leader
Global Agricultural Workers from the 17th to the 21st Century
Agricultural workers have long been underrepresented in labour history. This volume aims to change this by bringing together a collection of studies on the largest group of the global work force. The contributions cover the period from the early modern to the present – a period when the emergence and consolidation of capitalism has transformed rural areas all over the globe. Three questions have guided the approach and the structure of this volume. First, how and why have peasant families managed to survive under conditions of advancing commercialisation and industrialisation? Second, why have coercive labour relations been so persistent in the agricultural sector and third, what was the role of states in the recruitment of agricultural workers? Migration and Conflict in a Global Warming Era
This Special Issue explores underrepresented aspects of the political dimensions of global warming. It includes post- and decolonial perspectives on climate-related migration and conflict, intersectional approaches, and climate change politics as a new tool of governance. Its aim is to shed light on the social phenomena associated with anthropogenic climate change, as well as its multidimensional and far-reaching political effects, including climate-induced migration movements and climate-related conflicts in different parts of the world. In doing so, it critically engages with securitizing discourses and the resulting anti-migration arguments and policies in the Global North in order to identify and give a voice to alternative and hitherto underrepresented research and policy perspectives. In this way, it aims to contribute to a fact-based, critical, and holistic approach to human mobility and conflict in the context of political and environmental crisis.

The book develops a framework for analysis of comparative regional migration governance to support a distinct and truly global approach accounting for developments in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America and South America and the many and varying forms that regional arrangements can take in these regions.
