Music from the Heart follows Emile Benoit, a fiddler from French Newfoundland, through a rapidly changing musical milieu as he moves from a small rural community to international musical and folk festivals. Seeing himself as a representative of French Newfoundland, Benoit viewed his music as an expression of that identity. In Benoit's tunes one finds reference to the people, places, communities, roads, and natural landmarks that have framed his life. The compositions included represent a range of work that evokes his youthful experiences and follow his career as he leaves home, plays with other musicians, and presents his stories to audiences around the world. Quigley has based his study on years of observation of Benoit's compositional practices, his own experiences performing with Benoit, interviews, and analysis of the thoughts and conceptions of the artist himself.
The volume contains the texts of interviews realized with three linguists: the late Andre-Georges Haudricourt (1911-1996), Henry M. Hoenigswald (born in 1915) and Robert H. Robins (born in 1921). The book has a twofold objective: on the one hand, its goal is to bring together a number of "inside" testimonies on fundamental issues in linguistics; on the other hand, it is intended to provide a personalized documentation which is particularly relevant for a historiography of linguistics that does not limit itself to published sources. The issues addressed in these interviews concern the status of linguistics (and more particularly the relationship between the study of languages and history), the fundamental aims of the study of language, and the scientific and humanitarian status of linguistics. The three interviews also shed light on the intellectual itinerary of the three linguists and on the developments which took place in the linguistic landscape during the past 65 years. The three interviews are supplemented with useful bibliographical notes. The preface informs about the state of the art in the "oral archiving" of linguistics.

This book covers the author’s field experiences as an ethnographer in one country of Central America and an applied anthropologist in four US regions. A range of social fields are examined, which include: constructing a work experience table as a composite job resumé; correspondence with a maximum security prisoner for more than ten years; design features for multiple choice testing; farmworker sero-prevalence reports; health-seeking behavior among the Ngöbé (indigenous people in Central America); HIV/AIDS education in rural farm labor camps; Latinx naming practices for grocery stores and restaurants in agricultural areas; organizational capacity building assistance training; and teaching students in a community college and three secondary schools, among others. The book highlights the importance of incorporating ethnography in the completion of work tasks across a range of social fields, which represent diverse socio-cultural groups and immigrant populations.
