This volume presents an account of some of the most important work that has been done on various research problems in the theory of polynomials of one and several variables and their applications. It is dedicated to P L Chebyshev, a leading Russian mathematician.
At the beginning of 1988, the Austrian mathematical community was preparing to celebrate the sixtieth birthday of one of its outstanding members, Wilfried Nobauer, professor at Vienna Technical University. An international conference on general algebra was planned to celebrate this jubilee. However, Professor Nobauer's untimely death, just six months before the conference, turned the conference into a memorial event. Eighty-three algebraists from twenty-one countries met in Krems to present and discuss their work. This volume reflects the research being carried out in various branches of algebra throughout the world.
This book is devoted entirely to the theory of finite fields.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation of the TU Wien has existed as such since the division of the early, very large Faculty of Technical Sciences in 2004. It provides its own study programmes in both subjects, as well as ensuring the mathematical and geometrical basic education of the students of all seven other faculties. The faculty also conducts research in broad and highly crucial focal areas. The current volume is part of a comprehensive commemorative series published in 2015 for the bicentennial memorial of the TU Wien providing information on the research activities, teaching tasks, and history of the Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation, in particular over the last 50 years. Special attention has been paid to the exceptional scientific achievements of faculty members.
RSA is one of the most frequently used public key cryptosystems. Aimed at graduate students and researchers, this text surveys advances in RSA cryptography over the last 22 years with an emphasis on the description and analysis of proposed attacks against the RSA system. Katzenbeisser (Vienna U. of Technology) begins with background information on number theory and computational complexity and goes on to discuss such topics as one-way functions, factorization techniques, the vulnerabilities of low encryption systems, and possible applications of the RSA function in signature schemes. c.
