Electron Cyclotron Emission And Electron Cyclotron Heating (Ec12), Proceedings Of The 12th Joint Workshop

The 12th Joint Workshop on Electron Cyclotron Emission and Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating (EC-12) was held in Aix-en-Provence (France) from May 13 to 16, 2002. This workshop was concerned with the interaction of electromagnetic waves and hot plasmas, a subject of great importance in the framework of research on controlled thermonuclear fusion. Using as a fuel a mixture of deuterium and tritium, which can be extracted from sea water, this is a very promising way to develop an intrinsically safe reactor. The workshop gathered approximately one hundred specialists in the production, use and theory of millimetre waves for heating and diagnostics of fusion plasmas.

Handbook on the History of Economic Analysis Volume I

Volume I contains original biographical profiles of many of the most important and influential economists from the seventeenth century to the present day. These inform the reader about their lives, works and impact on the further development of the discipline. The emphasis is on their lasting contributions to our understanding of the complex system known as the economy. The entries also shed light on the means and ways in which the functioning of this system can be improved and its dysfunction reduced.

Safety Factor Profile Control in a Tokamak

Control of the Safety Factor Profile in a Tokamak uses Lyapunov techniques to address a challenging problem for which even the simplest physically relevant models are represented by nonlinear, time-dependent, partial differential equations (PDEs). This is because of the spatiotemporal dynamics of transport phenomena (magnetic flux, heat, densities, etc.) in the anisotropic plasma medium. Robustness considerations are ubiquitous in the analysis and control design since direct measurements on the magnetic flux are impossible (its estimation relies on virtual sensors) and large uncertainties remain in the coupling between the plasma particles and the radio-frequency waves (distributed inputs). ...

Theory of Fusion Plasmas

The Joint Varenna-Lausanne International Workshop on Theory of Fusion Plasmas takes place every other year in a place particularly favorable for informal and in depth discussions. Invited and contributed papers present state-of-the art researches in theoretical plasma physics, covering all domains relevant to fusion plasmas. This workshop always allows a fruitful mix of experienced researchers and students, to allow for a better understanding of the key theoretical physics models and applications, such as: Theoretical issues related to burning plasmas; Anomalous Transport (Turbulence, Coherent Structures, Microinstabilities) RF Heating and Current Drive; Macroinstabilities; Plasma-Edge Physics and Divertors; Fast particles instabilities.

Techniques of Acting

Originally published in 1969, this was the first book of its kind: an attempt to describe the different approaches that the actor needs to make to different media – theatre, film and television – and to show how the art of acting, which never stops evolving had entered into a new phase of growth in the sixties. Ronald Hayman examines questions which are basic, but had often been ignored: What exactly goes on inside the actor’s mind while (s)he is preparing a part? How much do actors vary in their approach? Where does personality stop and technique begin? This wide-ranging study of the actor at work is based partly on what outstanding actors have said about their methods but chiefly on close analysis of actual performances in plays, films and on television. Laurence Olivier, Helene Weigel, Jeanne Moreau and many others are both examined in close-up and viewed in perspective against the giants of the past like Bernhardt and Salvini.
