The Ontario Ministry of Environment sets environmental quality standards to protect human & ecosystem health, prevent damage to the physical environment, and minimize offensive odours. This document sets out revised priorities for the development of new standards or the revision of existing ones. It begins with an overview of the standards setting process, then identifies the priorities for the following: air quality standards, drinking water objectives, provincial water quality objectives, guidelines for concentrations of environmental contaminants in biota, guidelines for sediment & lake fill quality, and other environmental media (soil & groundwater, sewage sludge, compost).
