Problem-Focused Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

In the vast majority of books discussing reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI), the contents are organized and classified by organs and systems. In contrast, this book is problem-based: chapters are sensibly arranged according to the chief complaints from patients presenting at the office. Readers will be guided to formulate the differential diagnoses, select the appropriate evaluation scheme to arrive at the correct diagnosis, and finally decide on the recommended treatment for the particular condition. The range of both male and female REI conditions are presented here, providing the clinician with the tools to sort through the numerous and often similar complaints from patients...

Principles of Gender-Specific Medicine

The field of gender-specific medicine examines how normal human biology and physiology differ between men and women and how the diagnosis and treatment of disease differs as a function of gender. This revealing research covers various conditions that predominantly occur in men as well conditions that predominantly occur in women. Among the areas of greatest difference are cardiovascular disease, mood disorders, the immune system, lung cancer as a consequence of smoking, osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity, and infectious diseases. The Second Edition of Principles of Gender-Specific Medicine focuses on the essentials of gender-specific medicine and the current study of sex and gender differences ...

A History Of Korea

First published in 1996. Always there are hills in the distance, backed by mountains, wreathed in mist, and always the sound of water. These are the things that have inspired the Korea’s poets and artists and haunt the dreams of its exiles. An eastern backbone of sharp mountains has ribs that run westward and from these wooded hills flow the water that trickles through the rice fields. Climatic maps show it to be at the centre of a small area that is almost unique in its combination of cold dry winters and hot rainy summers. Most of its plants and animals are common to the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere but they are tested almost to destruction by seasonal alternations of Siberian cold and summer monsoons. In May the brown desert of winter begins to shimmer in a delicate veil of green which grows into a summer jungle and dies with glory in a long warm autumn of red and gold. About 600 miles in length and 150-200 miles wide, it reaches out from the mainland like an oriental Italy, with China embracing it to the north and west and Japan only 100 miles away to the south and east. This book illuminates the reader about the history of Korea.

This book is the first comprehensive volume on the genetics and genomics of pineapple and provides an overview of the current state of pineapple research. Pineapple [Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.] is the second most important tropical fruit after banana in term of international trade. Its features are advantageous for genomic research: it has a small genome of 527 Mb which is diploid and vegetatively propagated; it is monocot, closely related to the grass family that includes major cereal crops, wheat, rice, corn, sorghum, and millet; and it serves as an out group for genetic and genomic research in grasses. In addition to exploring the evolution and improvement of pineapple, this work examines the pineapple genome with respect to genome structure and organization, comparative analyses with other angiosperm genomes, transcription factors, disease resistance, and circadian clock regulation of CAM related genes. With chapters covering botanical, genetic, genomic, and applied aspects of pineapple, this text also encourages the application of genomic technologies and suggests future prospects.

Documenting Mobility in the Japanese Empire and Beyond

This book tackles the question of border control in and around imperial Japan in the first half of the twentieth century, with a specific focus on its documentation regime. It explores the institutional development, media and literary discourses, and on[1]the-ground practices of documentary identification in the Japanese empire and the places visited by its subjects. The contributing authors, covering such regions as Korea, Manchuria, Taiwan, Siberia, Australia, and the United States, place the question of individual identity in the eyes of the respective governments in dialogue with the global developments of the identification and mobility control practices. The chapters suggest the import...
