With a view to rebuilding the Victoria Street area of the city, which is punctuated by a number of pedestrian post-war buildings, Lynch Architects, through its use of materials, approach to public space and treatment of the deep facades that are hallmarks of the practice s architecture, are enriching the city such that it becomes a genuinely informed public space. Here the public and building users alike can participate with pleasure in a civic architecture, given all of the historical depth this term implies from the Renaissance through to contemporary architectural and urban theory. James Gordon Bennett was born in 1841, a spoilt only son who took over as publisher of the New York Herald from his millionaire father.
