Facets of Globalisation

For many years, ‘anglistik & englischunterricht’ has been devoted to the exploration of a wide range of questions within the field of British and American culture and the teaching of culture. The objective of the first volume on globalisation is to provide a diverse approach to the problem area of globalisation, which, perhaps more than any other issue, needs to be addressed from a wide variety of disciplinary perspectives. It is, however, also self-evident that the number of specific questions to be covered within the scope of this volume is necessarily very limited and cannot serve as a systematic introduction to a problem area that, by definition, defies any such endeavour. Therefore, the publication offers a selection of contributions from linguistic, literary, film and cultural studies with a partly strong focus on teaching on secondary and tertiary levels. The volume should offer valuable insights not only for teachers at schools and universities but also for the interested public.

Roger Raveel: Retrospection

An extensive retrospective dedicated to Roger Raveel (1921-2013), one of the most important Belgian painters of the second half of the 20th century Commemorating the centenary of the artist's birth in 2021, the Centre for Fine Arts - BOZAR will present an extensive retrospective dedicated to Roger Raveel (1921-2013), considered one of the most important Belgian painters of the second half of the twentieth century. While belonging to the generation of artists that emerged following the Second World War, flanked by Magritte and Panamarenko, Raveel radically defended his own independence from the values commonly associated with this generation, notably the supposed superiority of internationality over all forms of local anchorage. In today's context of globalized art and its associated stereotypes, Raveel's choice to draw inspiration from his immediate, intimate surroundings--while always being very well informed about trends in the international art scene--now seems revolutionary, even prophetic. Showcasing some 120 artworks from public and private collections, this catalogue seeks to demonstrate the singularity of Raveel's pictorial language as it took form over time.

Joost Colpaert (°1965, lives and works in Oudenaarde, Belgium) has been producing paintings and videos for many years in which recurring cycles, fluent progress and the force of water play a central theme. He is inspired by his musical background: where a painting is spatially restricted, music can continue to flow (eternally). In a series of paintings from around 2000 the idea of recurring cycles was expressed in the form of rings, streamers and tyres which wound around and through each other. Since 2002 he has become more and more inspired by water and rivers; a reflection of a recurring cycle. He works this figuratively using maps and landscapes, but also abstractly.
