In Tierversuchen fällt auf, dass die Substanz maligne Zellen bekämpft. Ein Geologe lässt unbemerkt einige Tabletten für einen an Krebs erkrankten Freund drucken. Was er nicht weiß: die Substanz bekämpft nicht nur Krebszellen, sondern unterdrückt zudem das Gefühl der Angst. Und: ihr wohnt ein ansteckender Virus inne. Es entwickelt sich eine Infektionskette, die das soziale Miteinander nachhaltig verändert und die Strafstatistiken explodieren lässt. Als auch feindlich gesinnte diktatorische Staaten in den Besitz des Marsgesteins gelangen und die angstblockierende Kieselsäure für ihre Zwecke einsetzen, droht die Situation zu eskalieren, der Weltfrieden ist ernsthaft bedroht. Zum Glück stellt sich heraus, dass die Angstblockade nur vorübergehender Natur ist. Trotzdem muss dringend ein Gegenmittel gefunden werden. Denn das Virus breitet sich weiter aus und längst planen kriegführende Großmächte, sich das Gestein vor Ort zu besorgen.
