El albinismo no es una enfermedad; se trata de una condición genética poco frecuente. Una persona no sufre o padece albinismo, sino que "es" una persona con albinismo. Son individuos que han sufrido mutaciones en determinados genes y que normalmente reconocemos por su poca o nula pigmentación en la piel y su pelo blanco, aunque su rasgo más limitante sean sus graves problemas de visión, con una agudeza visual que suele ser inferior al 10%.
